How can technology break barriers imposed around one's gender? To this mission, young coders develop app prototypes with mentoring from established industry pros in a learning-intensive weekend at this year's Code-A-Thon held at Microsoft Partners Philippines. Indeed, big problems can be solved when the youth takes action, especially with guidance from mentors.
this is a little silence of the lambs parody created as a thank you to the powers that be at Muvizu for all the patience shown when reading our requests for new features no matter how crazy they are Cheers

THE CURRENT STATE OF MEDICAL CODING IN THE PHILIPPINES Medical coding is an industry that has stemmed from the success of outsourced healthcare projects in the Philippines (voice and non-voice) from the start of the millennium. Influential organizations in the US healthcare industry have invested in the Philippines for their medical coding and other healthcare outsourcing requirements as the healthcare and education systems of the Philippines are patterned closely after the American systems. TeleDevelopment's Medical Coder Training and Certification The oversupply of registered nurses in the Philippines and the high demand for certified experienced medical coders has made it more practical for TeleDevelopment to train freshers as medical coders instead of inviting experienced coders t...

Who said simulator coders don't have a sense of humor? When building aircraft models for traffic, they'll often throw in (hard-to-find) models such as cars, trucks, shoes, trains, and random objects. They obviously don't appear as normal traffic by default... and it takes a bit of hunting to find them on the panel. In this video we chase a bus down the ILS at Sydney (16R). Excuse the poor video... it was shot by a chap on his iPhone. For more videos subscribe to our website at http://www.flight.org. Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. There are plenty to see and do as well. -------------------------------------------------- About Me: I'm Kyle Le and I live, travel, and eat in Vietnam and many Asian countries. Its increasingly common that teams are distributed across multiple offices, in different countries, all working on the same product or project. But how do you make this work well? There seem to be a number of readily accepted tenants of conventional wisdom to help deal with leading distributed teams, from seeming good ideas “teams must be co-located” to ones that are purely economic “offshore teams can be run at a far lower cost”. This talk will challenge the conventional wisdom around leading distributed teams. I will explore how I have structured distributed teams at finder.com, and explain where and why I deviate from conventional practices (teams are not co-located or bounded by geography for instance). I will show how ignoring or modifying these can produce much better outcomes, happ...
An engrossing, insider’s account of how a teacher built one of the world’s most valuable companies—rivaling Walmart & Amazon—and forever reshaped the global economy. In just a decade and half Jack Ma, a man from modest beginnings who started out as an English teacher, founded and built Alibaba into one of the world’s largest companies, an e-commerce empire on which hundreds of millions of Chinese consumers depend. Alibaba’s $25 billion IPO in 2014 was the largest global IPO ever. A Rockefeller of his age who is courted by CEOs and Presidents around the world, Jack is an icon for China’s booming private sector and the gatekeeper to hundreds of millions of middle class consumers. Duncan Clark first met Jack in 1999 in the small apartment where Jack founded Alibaba. Granted unprecedented ac...

The radio show Calling All Cars hired LAPD radio dispacher Jesse Rosenquist to be the voice of the dispatcher. Rosenquist was already famous because home radios could tune into early police radio frequencies. As the first police radio dispatcher presented to the public ear, his was the voice that actors went to when called upon for a radio dispatcher role. The iconic television series Dragnet, with LAPD Detective Joe Friday as the primary character, was the first major media representation of the department. Real LAPD operations inspired Jack Webb to create the series and close cooperation with department officers let him make it as realistic as possible, including authentic police equipment and sound recording on-site at the police station. Due to Dragnet's popularity, LAPD Chief Parker...
Is the Internet going to live up to its promise as the greatest force for individual freedom that the world has ever known? Or is the hope for a global community of creative intellectual interaction lost…for now? In last year’s Black Hat keynote—entitled “Lifecycle of a Revolution”—noted privacy and civil liberties advocate Jennifer Granick told the story of the Internet utopians, people who believed that Internet technology could greatly enhance creative and intellectual freedom. Granick argued that this Dream of Internet Freedom was dying, choked off by market and government forces of centralization, regulation, and globalization. The speech was extremely popular. Almost 8000 people watched it at Black Hat. It was retweeted, watched and read by tens of thousands of people. Boing Boing c...
